1.2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans.
Artifact: Technology Planning Project
Reflection:
The technology planning project allowed me to create a technology vision, assess my school's current technology situation, create a one-year action plan and propose a process for future planning. This task is all about technology planning. This word document includes my vision and rationale paper, a current reality report of my school, a one-year action/evaluation plan and a proposed process for future planning to prepare my school for technology integration.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 1.2 in that I was able to understand my school's technology situation and plan for ways to improve and take my school to the next level of technology integration. These ideas were discussed with team members and technology leaders in my school. An action plan was also developed which allows me to track progress and make changes as needed.
Completing this assignment allowed me to analyze my school's current technology situation. It was eye opening to see many of the issues my school struggles with in implementing technology in the regular classroom. I was also able to uncover many of the anxieties teachers feel in implementing technology in the classroom. Teachers are at different levels in implementation. A majority of teachers in my school use technology for direct teaching purposes while few seem to use technology for engaged learning. I was able to see where my school stands and make plans for where we want to go with technology. To improve this task, I would discuss my findings and action plan with my lead teacher and/or assistant principal to see what ways we could combat the feeling of anxiety in technology use among the school.
This assignment contributed to my learning as it helped me understand one aspect of being a technology leader. Technology integration is a slow process that takes time and careful planning. Not everyone will move at the same pace and many may be resistant. The key is working through this resistance and getting as many people on board with moving forward in technology integration. The impact of this task can be assessed by surveying faculty and staff every year to see the gradual changes in technology integration.
