Artifact: ITEC 7430: Thing 20 Jing!
Reflection:
Exploring Jing as well as other Web 2.0 tools was done in ITEC 7430. I found this tool to be useful for a variety of students. Using Jing allows me to record tutorials, PowerPoints, Notebook files, and videos for students that need extra support or who miss class for one or more days. We have several students that are hospital home-bound and could use this feature in catching up on lessons or viewing what their peers view in daily classes. Students can access the videos at home and can review notes or lesson from class. The artifact shown on my blog is a tutorial on using a website called freezingblue.com in order to create online flashcards to use on the Internet or on cell phones.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 3.4 in that I used an online tool to assist a variety of students to meet specific needs. There are many more ways to use Jing other than the suggestions above.
In completing this task, I learned that Jing can be used for a variety of tasks. I can post videos to my classroom webpage on difficult topics for students to refer back to. I can also post tutorial videos for parents in using Power School or other websites useful to them or their child. I could also have my students use Jing to record their presentations for certain projects as another presentation option.
Learning about this online tool impacts student learning as it gives me more opportunities and ideas for reaching out to students that are struggling in the regular classroom. Students can utilize this tool to turn their projects into presentation as an alternative for presentations in front of the classroom. Feedback from students and parents about the usefulness of the videos can assess the use of Jing in the classroom.
