5.3 Program Evaluation
Candidates design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning.
Artifact: Evaluation Plan
Reflection:
The evaluation plan was created in ITEC 7460 to go along with our professional learning plan and professional learning session. The evaluation plan was used to determine the effectiveness of the professional learning plan using Guskey's Five Levels of Evaluation: participants' reactions, participants' learning, organization support & change, participants' use of new knowledge, and skills and student learning outcomes. The evaluation plan includes actions/tasks, timeline, resources/budget, data collection methods, and dissemination strategies.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 5.3 in that I designed and implemented a program evaluation to determine overall effectiveness of professional learning to improve teacher pedagogical skills and increase student learning. Teachers were willing to answer questions I had about the professional learning session, as they knew I was using the information to guide and improve concepts and materials of future professional learning sessions to help them in the classroom.
In completing the evaluation plan, I learned that a professional learning session should not only be about teaching new technology but include making the learner feel comfortable, increasing learner knowledge, giving the learner proper support and ensuring teachers can take what is learned and apply it to their teaching to affect student learning and performance.
The evaluation plan impacts faculty development and student learning in that I gain insight and ideas on teacher feedback for future professional learning sessions. The learning sessions improve faculty use of technology in the classroom which in turn impacts student learning as students will be more engaged and interested in new content. Gaining feedback from teachers in attendance can assess the impact of the Evaluation Plan.
