3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure.
Artifact: Content Area Report
Reflection:
The Content Area Report is a handout that explains to teachers what technologies are available to them for a specific content area and grade level. I chose to create an 8th grade Social Studies handout. This handout was specifically designed for 8th grade; however, other grade levels would find many of the links helpful as well. This handout is for colleagues to refer to when looking for URLs, articles, videos or more information. The textbook, Integrating Technology into Teaching by Roblyer was used as a guide in creating the Content Area Report.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 3.6 in that I created a grade level and content specific document with the best digital tools and resources available at my school. I collaborated with the Media Specialist as well as other teachers to discuss what tools are most helpful in the classroom.
In completing this artifact, I learned that there are many resources available that teachers are not aware of. Parents and students can utilize many of these resources as well. This document would be something useful that I could add to my classroom webpage for others to easily find and use as needed.
Creating this handout impacts faculty as well as students. Faculty members discover resources that can be easily integrated into the regular classroom. All resources are located on one page and are content as well as grade level specific. Students are given more opportunities to discover new tools and resources available in school as well as at home. Many of these resources can help students with everyday work or homework as well as classroom projects and papers. Students are not confined to textbook for information but digital resources that are new to them. Feedback from teachers and students on the available sites can assess the use of the Content Area Report.
