4.3 Diversity, Cultural Understanding & Global Awareness
Candidates model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to support diverse student needs, enhance cultural understanding, and increase global awareness.
Artifact: Online Learning Experience (OLE) Grid
Reflection:
The online learning experience (OLE) grid allowed me to take a 6th grade Math probability unit and turn it into an online learning experience. Objectives were written with engaging activities in mind in order to meet Bloom's levels of engagement. Assessments were then created to measure student learning based on the activities completed.
Completing the OLE grid demonstrates mastery of standard 4.3 in that I created an online unit to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. Activities are also varied to meet the needs of differing learning styles within the online class.
In completing this online unit, I had to think of my audience in a different way. I had to find resources that could answer potential questions students might have while going through each activity. I waned to cover each standard in a way that gave students various opportunities to understand the material. I also had to assess the activities to ensure they were meeting Bloom's higher levels of comprehension. To improve this assignment, I would incorporate more peer-to-peer communication within the unit. I have students communicating with each other on just a couple of tasks when I would like for there to be more communication.
This artifact impacts student learning as it was created for online learners. Sixth grade students can learn about probability by completing the activities assigned. This artifact is also a learning experience for teachers as it shows the important information needed to outline an online class with various activities and assessments. Tracking student progress and retention throughout the unit can assess the impact of the OLE grid.
