2.4 Higher Order Thinking Skills
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to support and enhance higher order thinking skills (e.g., analyze, evaluate, and create); processes (e.g., problem-solving, decision-making); and mental habits of mind (e.g., critical thinking, creative thinking, metacognition, self-regulation, and reflection).
Artifact: Webquest
Webquest Description & Reflection
Reflection:
The webquest assignment allowed me to take a project plan and turn it into a multimedia project. This webquest includes audio, graphics, video and other design elements that demonstrate the use of effective design. I decided to create a webquest, using Weebly, for my 8th grade Mathematics classes using our Geometry unit. This webquest will be a culminating activity for students to show what they learned throughout the unit. Students will create a home of their choosing using at least eight design elements learned during the Geometry unit. Students will create their home using an online program called Architecture 3d. Students must be able to identify all eight geometric design elements to show mastery of this concept.
This assignment demonstrates mastery of standard 2.4 because I used digital tools and resources to support higher-order thinking skills. Students must apply what they learned in the Geometry unit to real world situations. Students will actually create these real world situations in the home they create.
In creating this artifact I learned that students need structure with some freedom to be creative to make a learning experience their own. Before creating this webquest, I never thought I'd have the capability of creating one on my own. After learning to use Weebly and understanding the components that make up an engaging lesson from the ADDIE model, I felt confident in creating an engaging webquest.
This assignment impacted my own learning of creating webquests and using Weebly. I feel confident in showing fellow colleagues how to move forward in their own classrooms using technology. This assignment also impacts students they they have the ability to learn new technology as well as show their understanding in a different format. Grading final products using the rubric created can assess the webquest and its impact on students.
