3.7 Communication & Collaboration
Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community.
Artifact: Classroom Website
Reflection:
My classroom website was created to communicate with students, parents, colleagues and the community. My website contains information about our team, using various websites, the classroom syllabus, tutoring options, important school events and weekly lesson plans. The website is updated on a weekly basis to maximize use. My classroom website was also used as an example webpage for teachers when creating their own.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 3.7 in that I utilize digital tools to communicate with students, parents, colleagues and the community.
Absent students can find weekly lesson plans as not to fall behind in class. Parents use the classroom website to find out what is going on in their child's classroom and school. Parents can also find resources as well as important information on their child's education. Colleagues use the classroom website to find resources as well as view ideas for their own classroom website.
I've learned that creating the classroom website can be a useful tool for those that choose to utilize it. In order for more people to use the website, I need to talk about and refer to the website more in my classroom. I need to show students and parents how it can be useful to them when they come for open house and then follow-up with an email afterwards with the link easily available.
This website impacts faculty development as teachers begin to create and utilize their own classroom website. Students use the website for more resources that link to extra practice or tutoring. The website is easily accessible to those that have Internet access at home and for those parents that have Internet access at work. Students also have access to the information at school if Internet access is not available at home. Feedback from students, parents, and colleagues about the usability of the classroom webpage can assess its effectiveness.
